Dear Donna 02:40
By the time you read this letter You'll know that things have changed, well they've changed for the better I'm sure you're worried 'bout telling your mother Although we both know she'll be pleased to discover I'm gone Why did I ask you to tell me your secret? You lied and played dumb 'til you started to shriek it I took your hand and I said we would make it I tried so damn hard, now I know I can't take it I'm sure that this will hurt you but I guess you'll carry on Dear Donna I am gone Though I leave I don't want you pretending You're the one to blame for this unhappy ending 'Cause I'm a man and it shouldn't be tough to Ignore all the pain when I'm saying "I love you" I thought I could forgive you but I guess I'm not that strong Dear Donna I am gone And I hope that you'll believe me when I say I care for you more than ever girl and I wish that I could stay I don't know if you could see what I've become But in the face I think of night and day, I see only what you've done Dry your tears and get someone who'll suit you If he's the real one, here's to his and your future I hope you'll grant my last request And please give me a kiss before I'm laid to rest I thought we were forever but I guess that was too long Dear Donna I am gone I told you life goes on, girl, but I guess that I was wrong Dear Donna I am gone Dear Donna I am gone

Born in Louisiana Or maybe Indiana I can never seem to keep it straight Brushed your daddy's mares Went to harvest fairs Made the cheerleading team that was third in the state Were you baking bread When it hit your head If you left your kind it might be fun You came to New York City Seeking cash and pity Now you wish you could even find enough of just one Those who make it on their own, pretty girl Alone, pretty girl, are few And it's a long, long way back home, pretty girl Home, pretty girl, for you Say I don't know so you'll just have to show what a country girl can do But I sure know it's a long way home for you Why'd you leave the charm Of your cozy farm Where you'd tie the knot to some hick slob? Wanna tread the boards Win some Guild awards Or maybe you even thought you'd get a real job? Like a dress-up doll With a goofy drawl You pout your lips to make the sale But I've had my fun Darling now we're done And my wallet is zipped to your prying pink nails Well this life just ain't your own, pretty girl A loan, pretty girl, that's due And it's a long, long way back home, pretty girl Home, pretty girl, for you Say I don't know just how far you'll go to see your troubles through But I sure know it's a long way home for you Those city lights ain't quite as warm as you once dreamed A life of quiet nights don't look nearly so bad as how it once seemed Think I'll deliver when those tears roll down your cheek? Gonna cry a river, girl, or will you never get past a backwater creek? Three o'clock I wake to a knock Coming steady and weak upon my door Blinkin' blue doe eyes You apologize Like it hurts you to speak but there isn't much more Done things you won't say Just to make your way Praying for some slack 'cause you were wrong Well you broke my will Take this hundred bill And get the first bus back to where you belong Now you take a nasty tone, pretty girl Like a grown pretty girl can't do Well it's a long, long way back home, pretty girl Home, pretty girl, for you Now you're all sore and screaming you know more than you know I ever knew But I sure know it's a long way home for you Now you start to bawl that I know nothing at all but you know that isn't true 'Cause I sure know it's a long way home for Sure know it's a long way home for Sure know it's a long way home for you

The alarm rings at ten-thirty She's awake at ten to noon She lifts her head from her dirty bed Then decides that it's too soon And she stares up at her ceiling wonderin' how long she will lay Then what to do with just another day She takes a quick inspection As she steps out of the shower She combs her hair as her reflection stares And the seconds last an hour 'Til she takes her hands to mess it up so it looks the same old way 'Cause after all, it's just another day She telephones her mother To say she's doing fine But they'll have to speak some other week 'Cause she doesn't have the time Then she looks out of her window, watching clouds that roll away They pass on by like just another day She gives herself a smile and tries to find something to say But it can wait for just another day Her eyes become a burden Her breath becomes a yawn She puts on her gown and pulls her curtain down 'Cause the daylight isn't gone Though she's hoping for sweet dreams tonight, she knows they'll go astray Before she wakes to just another day She tells herself if life's a game, it isn't hard to play 'Cause all you lose is just another day

Did you think I'd listen to the lies you said Give up our love for dead? Did you think I wouldn't reach to dry my tears I wouldn't persevere? Did you think my head won't bow my knees won't bend Won't beg to make amends? Did you think I'd listen? Every word's in vain 'Til you come back again Did you think I'd leave you when you say we're through I'd find somebody new? Did you think you'd slit me like a hanging thread That lingers from your bed? Did you think you'd let me down laugh in my face I'd crawl off in disgrace? Did you think you'd cut so deep and break my heart? You won't tear us apart If I were you, I'd stop this foolishness, do not resist, you'll see It's meant to be, your coyness is destroying me but I never thought you'd hurt me like you planned All I'm tryin's just to make you understand The boy in hand Is worth two you'll never land Did you think my heartbeat stops at your front drive 'Til you let us inside? Did you think I'd pound your door then I'd concede Before my fingers bleed? Did you think true love could lose to one girl's fight I wouldn't hold you tight? Did you think I'd listen if you still don't know I'll never let you go If I were you, I'd stop this foolishness, do not resist, you'll see It's meant to be, your coyness is destroying me but I never thought you'd laugh to see me cry All I'm tryin's just to show the reason why The beholder's eye Is worth two who'll pass you by 'Cause one girl's guilt is another girl's pleasure One girl's pain is another girl's leisure One girl's fall is another girl's revival One girl's desperation is another girl's survival One girl's habit is another girl's addiction One girl's blessing is another girl's affliction One girl's make up is another's last dance One girl's break up is another's last chance If I were you, I'd stop this foolishness, do not resist you'll see We're meant to be, your coyness is destroying me but I never thought you'd hurt me like you planned All I'm tryin's just to make you understand The boy in hand Is worth two you'll never land No I, I never thought you'd hurt me like you planned You better shut your mouth until you understand The boy in hand Is worth two you'll never land Two you'll never land Two you'll never land

Kate 03:52
Kate I think the problem is you've got too many feelings Taking time for every passing thought, your eyes on the ceiling You like me too much to let me wait or tell me you'll fake it And if that don't melt my heart my darling Kate I think it'll break it So it's just some fantasy But oh why can't you see? It doesn't matter much to me If you don't feel the way I feel about you girl That ain't what I'm asking you to do 'Cause you could never know the way I feel about you darling It's something I just can't communi- Kate I think the problem is you've got too many feelings You can take my heart just don't get caught and then it ain't stealing If you don't want me to waste my time on such an endeavor Love me hate me just say that you're mine then go feel whatever So I'm heading for a fall But I'm ready for your call 'Cause I don't really care at all If you don't feel the way I feel about you girl I lose your letdowns somewhere 'round your lips And even if you know the way I feel about you darling It's something you just can't recipro- Kate I think the problem is you've got too many feelings Pick apart the ways you love me not it's so unappealing You like me too much to understate or let me mistake it And if that don't melt my heart my darling Kate I think it'll break it It doesn't matter much to me But is there any way I can Get you to understand The way I feel about you? Should I take it like a man When I'd die at your command Before I'd have to live without you? So Kate if you don't feel the way I feel about you girl We can make it up as we go along So now you say you know the way I feel about you darling It's something you don't have to complicate It's something you don't have to complicate

Lindsay 03:20
Lindsay They said you say That you are bound to do better Lindsay With every day They're laughing louder than ever I know that you don't like me or that's sure what I've been hearing Though I never give up easy, you don't find that so endearing Lindsay They said you pray That I just find someone desperate Lindsay All that they say Already I could have guessed it I know that you don't like me or I sure get that impression And I guess that I'm not helping by not hiding my affection But though you barely care to spite me And my idea of romance Isn't something that you're keen on, so I hear Well I'm sure that you would like me, girl If I could have the chance To be something you can lean on, Lindsay So will I have to dream on, Lindsay? Or is the day that we get closer near? I know that you don't like me thinking anything about you But until you'll be with me girl well that's what I'll do without you Lindsay So now they say It's time for you to forget her Lindsay For just one day Let you and I stay together I know that you don't like me but you don't know what I'll go through For one day to be with you girl 'cause that's all I'll need to show you Although you find the thought unsightly Give my eyes more than a glance And what you're looking for might fall near what you find 'Cause I'm sure that you would like me, girl If I could have the chance And you'll see that I belong, dear Lindsay And even if I'm wrong here, Lindsay They say one day ain't really too much time

Sorry you had to let me down Pretend you never heard a sound All you have to do is turn around I never even should have asked Don't waste a tender word or touch It's too little then it's all too much So while God knows you never care to rush You should get out of here real fast Just turn and go away And don't say you need someone to walk you home I just need a little time To hide away from everything I've shown Don't let it break your heart Just because I had to let you break my own Please just leave me alone Let rain keep falling at my feet Let lightning chase you down the street As you hear thunder laugh at my defeat I'd better get myself inside Grey city sidewalks in the rain Grey skies and pavement left to blame I watch them tumble down the drain There's no place I can run and hide Just turn and go away And don't say you need someone to walk you home I just need a little time Let me hide away from everything I've shown Don't let it break your heart Just because I had to let you break my own Please just leave me alone If I could change in any way If I could ask another day What could I give to make you stay and see? Now you don't have a thing to say Now you've run out of games to play Now I just hope you'll walk away from me Don't care enough to go inside Cold rain will wash away my pride Bury me right here when I have died Beneath a stop light blinking red Don't turn and smile to catch my eye Don't even try to say good-bye Why did you have to see me cry? You should have walked away instead Just turn and go away And don't say you need someone to walk you home I just need a little time To hide away from everything I've shown No don't let it break your heart Just because I had to let you break my own Please just leave me alone Please just leave...

No Way Girl 03:33
And isn't that what friends are for? To bare our souls and nothing more? But you don't like it if I call you when it's late 'Cause you've made it very clear There's a sympathetic ear Oh and an apathetic heartbeat that await I guess you think that I feel something's missing 'Cause when you talk I have the nerve to listen To what you say, girl (What you say, girl) But no way, girl (But no way, girl) There's no way girl that it's happening to me So on we dance but never slow You might not tell but let it show Because you're careful not to linger in my eyes Do I need your hand to stand by you? Don't we make it easy to be true? Well so I wish you hadn't filled your head with lies I guess you think it's time you should alert me It wouldn't do, you couldn't bear to hurt me That's okay, girl (What a cliché, girl) 'Cause no way, girl ('Cause no way, girl) There's no way girl that it's happening to me Knock down my door Dance across my floor There's news in store I've heard before Some creep du jour Completely sure It's meant to be I'll say the joy's both yours and mine And guess how long I'll wait this time 'Til you come crying back to me He should be nowhere near your dreams I think there's gonna be a scene If I ever see his face around again I say I'm doing like I should You say I should leave and leave for good 'Cause neither one now wants the other for a friend I guess you think I'm trying to deceive you Well tell me why you think I should believe you When you say, girl (There's no way, girl) There's no way, girl (So you say, girl) There's no way girl that it's happening to you Whatever you say, girl (Come what may, girl) I will stay, girl (Every day, girl) And find a way girl 'til it's happening to you

about

*** SAVVY MARKETING ALERT ***

There are two "hidden" "bonus" tracks you can "enjoy" when you fork over your "hard-earned" five dollars for the full "album" and support my "career" in the "arts". Obviously they're the two suckiest songs and this is a total scam, but whatever, buddy. Fifteen years ago, you'd have paid $20 for a record, and you wouldn't've had the luxury of hearing 80% of it in advance. And bear in mind that Bandcamp gets some of that $5, too; I end up with like $3, which is good enough for, what, half a box of Ho-Hos? Gimme your money and shut up. (Which is the tentative title of my follow-up, incidentally.)

Credits:

Me - basically everything
Some guy - harmonica on that one song
You - an overbearing sense of self-satisfaction 'cause you bought something so underground

All songs written and arranged by Jay Banerjee and published by Sweetheart Beats Music (ASCAP).
